I feel pretty.

9/30/2003

my current grammatical pet peeve: using "that" where "who" should be used.
example: "I like people that use good grammar."
"that" refers to things, not people. people require who.

this is seriously bothering me. has been for a couple of weeks. once i noticed that mistake in something i was reading, it's like i'm seeing and hearing it everywhere. it really irritates me. because i am a big, big nerd.

also, i have a bruise on the back of my hand--what a weird place for a bruise--and i have absolutely not a clue how it got there. if anyone may have seen me, say, banging the back of my left hand repeatedly against a table corner, please, let me know.

pumpkin shake.

aww yeah. i'm makin some of these.
creativewritingprompts.com's suggestion for today was to write a list of 15 'simple pleasures.' here's mine, which is neither comprehensive nor in any particular order:

1. big, soaring birds in a blue sky.
2. gooey ice cream cake.
3. noticing the first orange leaves in the fall.
4. listening to a good song really loud.
5. looking at favorite photos.
6. lining up random small toys on top of the computer monitor.
7. freshly washed hair (after it’s dried).
8. when someone says, ‘you look pretty today,’ in a friendly manner.
9. complimenting someone else, especially when they have not complimented you first.
10. coffee. good, strong coffee. mmm coffee.
11. walking around at home in a bathrobe and slippers.
12. trying to put together the pieces of a weird, half-remembered dream.
13. taking a nap, fully clothed, in bed, under all the covers, in the late afternoon.
14. having a celebrity crush (or 10).
15. thinking about what to knit next (ok, I know that one’s not terribly universal).
best quiz yet!

(picture removed because of freaking large size...click here to see it.)
hah!

You are drip coffee. You are practical, business-
like and hands-off, except for when your
'machine' needs 'servicing' and 'cleaning'.

director Elia Kazan = dead.

Althea Gibson, the first black tennis player to win the Wimbledon and U.S. national championships = dead.

actor Donald O'Connor (he was in Singin' in the Rain, one of my favorite childhood movies) = dead.

writer George Plimpton = dead.

plus john ritter, johnny cash, robert palmer...

ok, no kidding now, september has been a BAD month to be a celebrity. they're droppin like flies!
i have been thinking for a few days of what kinds of handmade things i'm going to make for xmas presents this year, and honestly, i am way far too excited about the prospects. i am such a big nerd.

by the way if anyone has any requests for knit items, get em in now. i'm planning out my knitting schedule for the next couple of months.

oh god, i'm a nerd. help me.

also posting this picture from (i think it was) the 'Some Like It Hot' video, because i used to have the same hairdo andy had there. coincidence? mmmmmmaybe.

well they finally mentioned it on msn.com's front page. so there.

i used to love this picture of the power station. i believe i had it hanging on my bedroom wall way back when. ah, memories.
MSN Entertainment - News - Rock Singer Robert Palmer Dies at Age 54

why is this not front-page news? i only heard about it because they mentioned it on duranduran.com. then i had to DIG in msn.com to find it.

ok i realize that robert palmer has not been front-page news in a decade and a half or so. i was being slightly facetious there. but still. i personally am sad. i will listen to power station all weekend in his honor.

i feel so incredibly, menstrually icky today, that i now feel i may forego the knitting tonight and instead go home and lay on the couch and watch Buffy DVDs all night instead. just thought you'd all like to know.
bleh.
i think i'm becoming obsessed with knitting. because i can't wait to get home tonight and knit. i mean. can't. wait. my god, i am such a nerd.

sometimes i just get this very uneasy feeling. like i'm forgetting something important that i knew just a minute ago. like something is very, very wrong, but i don't know what. i'm having one of those moments right now. it's bizarre.

pete burns, from dead or alive.

picture 1: then. fairly stunning, i think.

picture 2: now. holy CRAP. i am all for people looking however they want to look, but jesus christ, what's up with those lips? they look painful!

i have been looking at a lot of photo logs online lately--all started with coming upon satan's laundromat about a month ago--and i think i want to do one, too. i've been trying to take more pictures lately. and you know, it would be something to fill up killingjar.org with, since that whole writing-one-story-a-week thing isn't exactly flying.

so bored at work today i could fall off my chair and take a nap on the floor...

The Modern Library List of 100 Best English Language Novels of the 20th Century.

i've read (in their entirety, to the best of my recollection...there were some i remember reading only parts of) 6 from "The Board"'s list, 13 from "The Readers"'s list.

i have also read 12 from the St. Mark's Book Shop Additional 100 list...plus several more that have been on my mental "to read" list for a long, long time. this list is so much better than the Modern Library ones...
