I feel pretty.

The coincidence

is that today is Simon LeBon's birthday. Perhaps he was sending me psychic vibes earlier. You know, with the song popping into my head and all. Or maybe not.

Oh no not me, I'm not too late.

Why did this song just pop in my head about 10 minutes ago? I have no idea, but god bless YouTube for providing me with a video of it to rock out to quietly, behind my desk:

Duran Duran--"Friends of Mine" Live 1999.

I remember that concert. Well, not that concert, but I did see them on the same tour. I remember Simon's cowboy hat. He was lookin pretty fine then...the middle aged spread hadn't yet set in...

While you're at it, watch this one, too: Duran Duran--"Burning the Ground". I remember listening to that one on cassette tape in my Walkman way back when...it was a rare single (Maybe a b-side? Okay, who remembers when there were b-sides?) that was never played on the radio (and I guess I never found it in any of the local record stores)...so somehow I'd managed to tape (VHS!) the video when it was on MTV once, and I recorded the audio off of there. Ahhhh I am so old! Cassettes and VHS and MTV playing rare single videos!

Speaking of old, Duran Duran is playing around here in a couple weeks, and I'm not going...because it's in Atlantic City (3-ish hours away) and the only tickets left are for the standing area in the back of the theater's balcony. I'm not driving that long to stand in the back of a balcony. I am just. too. old. Hopefully, they will make it back to NY sometime soon.

Okay, just one more: Arcadia--"Goodbye Is Forever". A good song by one of the Duran Duran offshoot bands. They were so goth.

And holy crap, for comparison? A super old "Friends of Mine" video. And a live version from 1982. Oh, the 80s-ness of it all.

Wow. I love YouTube.

Some days

it rains and everything is okay. Others, it's gray and wet and cold and nothing seems comfortable or okay. Today is one of those days. I can't wait to get back home and crawl under the covers again.

I've had enough

Note to--well, many, many people:

Just because Johnny Depp looks good dressed up as a pirate does not mean that you do. In fact, you look stupid. Talking like a pirate, talking about how much you like pirates, wearing a pirate costume in public as your everday, going-to-the-grocery-store outfit...lame. All of it, LAME.

Actual pirates were, as far as I can tell, unwashed, probably very stinky, dirty, did I mention unwashed, thieving, murdering jerks. Is that who you really want to emulate?

Seriously, all you "Arr, I'm a pirate!!" people. Get a life.

There, I've said it.

I also just want to point out that

when I say "my bad," I do it with complete sarcasm. Or something. I'm not sure what it is but I can tell you that I do not use that phrase with any sort of seriousness. Because I think it is one of the most irritating set of words to ever evolve out of...well, wherever it came from. I don't know why it irks me so much, but it does make me giggle when I say it, because I feel so ridiculous doing so.

My Bad

As my husband has pointed out, those parts (actually, it's only one part) of the new My Chemical Romance song that I thought sounded like Blink 182 actually sound like Sum 41. Which makes me feel a little bit better.

That's all. Carry on.

Is that...

Little Lukas Haas in the new video by my favorite NJ band, My Chemical Romance? Sure looks like him.

It's a pretty cool video, I think, and the song is growing on me. (It's no "I'm Not Okay," but it ain't bad.) I do like their goth marching band uniforms, but I don't like how pieces of the song sound like Blink 182, because I really, really loathe them. The fact that MCR's new CD is supposed to be a concept album kind of scares me, too.

Also--and this is very imporant--I'm not sure how I feel about the singer's new hairstyle. I liked the black hair. The bleach blonde 'do makes him look like a giant toddler.

Thus ends my review. I hope it changed your life.

Eff You, Starbucks

Why did I feel compelled to look up the nutritional information on my new favorite drink, Starbucks' pumpkin spice latte? (They call it a "creme" on the website, but I think it's similar if not the same thing.)

One of these suckers--the smallest size, even--is worth 250 calories a pop. Now I can't like ever drink one again, and I'm depressed. If only I could find somewhere that made good pumpkin spice coffee--not with the flavored syrup crap. Hm.
