Woke up with this song in my head this morning. Particularly the line “My God what have we done to you?” Don’t know why; haven’t heard it in ages. Of course now I’ll be listening to it on repeat all day.

Singing for the lonely - Robbie Williams (by brownie1067)

Your home’s full of worthless aggravation

Then don’t bring it to mine

Jason Mraz - I Won’t Give Up (Official Lyric Video) (by OfficialJasonMraz)

We had to learn

how to bend

without the world caving in

Love love love. Love.

One of the most perfect songs ever. Can never pass up listening to it.

I am going to a Crowded House concert on Friday night.

I just found out about the show today. I am…so excited I’m speechless. I’ve been a fan for…oh boy, about 23 years, and never seen them live. This is the first song of theirs I heard, in 1987. Still one of my favorites.

So. Excited. Did I mention that?

In the late-ish ’90s I met a young man from Manchester, England, who got me hooked on Britpop—Oasis, the Bluetones, Ocean Colour Scene. Whenever I hear this song, it takes me right back to that moment in my life, and those memories are golden: my first job after college; my first apartment in an old farmhouse; driving through cornfields every day on the way to work in my light-blue, rattletrap ‘85 Chevy Nova. I had good friends, I went out a lot, I wrote a lot. All I remember of that time is sunshine and happiness and hope and life. At least, that’s how I see it now. Don’t we all remember our pasts as better than they were?

Could care less about American Idol, but I’m loving this guy’s cover of an old Bee Gees song.

Would like to see Christian Bale dancing to this today. In the Batsuit, if possible.

When I was a kid, my dad got a Magnavox laser disc player—probably one of the first consumer models, because that’s the kind of guy he was, so I’m guessing it was between 1978 and 1980. We had the disc set of this movie—Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band starring the Bee Gees and Peter Frampton, based on the Beatles’ songs—and I watched it sometimes every day.

Now, I understand that this movie is bad. I know that the Bee Gees’ acting was so atrocious, all their dialogue was edited out. But when I was five, it was magical to me. I loved it so much. And I had such a crush on Peter Frampton, with his silly white overalls and poofy hair.

This morning, while getting ready for work, I turned on the TV and this movie was on HBO. Watching it for a while, I got a little teary remembering how much unadulterated joy it had brought me as a child. Thankfully, HBO is showing it again—right now, actually—and my DVD recorder is on it. I can’t wait to get home tonight to watch it.
